ASSOCIATION NEWS
Our guest at Wednesday’s meeting, Gary McKiernan
from the Hervey Bay City Rotary Club, informed the
community that the Club intended to donate a Red
Cross Disaster Evacuation Centre Kit. This kit will be
presented at a later date and will assist the Burrum
Heads community should we once again suffer a
“disaster” … Heaven forbid !!. Many thanks to the
Rotary Club for their generous donation.
Members discussed the “formal” structure of the
planned Community Disaster Group. However, there
are concerns about State & Local Government
requirements that include the appointment of a local
“Warden” and what his/her exact role will be.
Concerns were also expressed about the legal
standing of volunteers involved in dealing with any
“disaster”. Many members of the community have
indicated that they are willing to help out in any
disaster situation … thank you.
Cr. Light informed us that the proposed closure of the
BH Waste Facility will not go ahead .. thank
goodness. In the near future the FCRC will be taking
over the maintenance of the Dolphin Waters Estate,
this should provide some continuity in services.
FCRC is aware of the subsidence of parts of the
retaining wall at Lions Park, this will be attended to
ASAP.
Cr. Light has asked that the community be reminded
that his BH office is NOT a defacto FCRC Office
and that an appointment has to be made with him for
a “conversation” at that office by phoning
0448 038 891. The receptionist at that premises is
NOT Cr. Light’s employee and must be treated
respectfully.
After recent concerns expressed by the community it
has been decided that a Dress Code will apply to all
those accessing the Community Hall. The Code will
be similar to that imposed in the Library.
Hall hire fees and newsletter advertising rates will
remain unchanged for the 2014 BHPA financial year.
FCRC has indicated that the Playscape Exercise
Equipment BHPA submitted meets their
requirements, we will now apply for a grant to cover
most of the cost.
Congratulations to the BH Christian Community
Church for another successful Tombola raising in
excess of $5,000.00 to be used for the upkeep of the
Community Church.
Now is the time to mark your calendar for the Village
Christmas Party on the 7th. December. Most
children’s activities will be free and Santa will pay a
visit. The “Money Tree” raffle this year will be a
“Fuel Tree” raffle with a total prize pool of $300.00.
Thanks to those who volunteered to help with this
activity.
……….. Ron Gregson (President)
