SES IN HOWARD NOW OPEN

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

fcrc

22 September 2009

Howard SES sheds – NOW OPEN

dscf0008

Response from council re our posting

The State Emergency building at Howard has not been closed.

The building is ready for use and SES volunteers do not have to go to use facilities in other towns as reported on the Burrum Chamber of Commerce Website.

The council did not place a sign [above?]on the building warning people not to enter the building and that it could not be used until further notice.

Volunteers did have concerns about the safety of an electrical switchboard at the building.

Those fears were allayed after the Council employed an electrician to examine the switchboard as part of a project to rewire the building to install more lights and so it could operate on power from generators in an emergency.

The electrician told the Council that the switchboard had been added to many times and while it was cluttered and messy, it was not dangerous.

The Council resolved to install a new switchboard rather than add more wiring to the circuitry.

A contractor has been appointed to install the new switchboard and, while they have been delayed, the contractor will start as soon installing the new switchboard as they can.

In the meantime the SES can continue to use the building.

Our initial posting was as a result of a visit from the recent leader of the SES and an inspection and photos taken of the closure notice and the buildings generally as posted into our site.

No opinion was formed nor any statements made by myself or the chamber outside of the fact that the premises were closed and the members were to go to other locations for meetings etc as stated by the recent SES leader now retired.

Great to see it back on track. WELL DONE.

Saw the lights on again there with some of the lads last night

OFFER DISCOUNTS TO CARD HOLDERS AND GET MORE BUSINESS – FCCC

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

fcrc

Dear Member,
The Fraser Coast Regional Council would like to invite Chamber of
Commerce members to become part of Staycations.
Staycations is an exciting ‘locals program’ initiated by the Fraser Coast Regional Council as part of its contribution to developing tourism and supporting local business operators.
Through a multi-tiered marketing campaign, locals are educated about the Fraser Coast’s wealth of attractions and natural attributes and encouraged, with the help of incentives, to become tourists in their own region.

The two main objectives are:
1. To stimulate the business and investment climate on the Fraser Coast by encouraging residents to “holiday at home” and spend money locally.
2. To encourage residents to become passionate and informed tourism ambassadors for the Fraser Coast and to proactively accompany their visiting friends and relatives to local attractions and experiences.
Staycations works by promoting the following incentives to  residents:
1. “Locals” discounts to all residents of the region with a Staycations Card

and/ or

2. Discounts for locals who bring a visitor from outside the area to a local attraction or tourism operator.

As at end of June 2009, there are over 1000 Fraser Coast residents who are Staycations card holders, and over 50 tourism and business members.
More details on the scheme, including the marketing benefits for your business can be viewed on request

If you would like to be part of this exciting marketing initiative, please contact Vanida Petts at Hervey Bay Visitor Information Centre on 4125 9858 or Kelli Sauer, at the Maryborough Visitor Information Centre on 4190 5742.

Kind regards,
Cr Anne Nioa,
Marketing and Tourism Portfolio Chair

FULL POSTAL SERVICES FOR BURRUM HEADS-SIGN PETITION

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

BURRUM HEADS

NEEDS A POSTAL SERVICE

ico_post_large

We have had a new resident to the Burrum district comment on the wonderful services available here, which we always like to hear….VERY NICE. But……

There is a flip side though. This person thought this idyllic seaside area of Burrum Heads would be the perfect place to wind down after a long day in the office, perhaps flick through a newspaper, or even read the mail delivered that day. Burrum Heads has come of age and now has a wealthier, affluent stable population

fcrc1

THE LOCAL FRASER COAST COUNCIL AND THE AUSTRALIAN POSTAL SERVICE MUST CORRECT & UPGRADE THIS LONG OVERDUE SERVICE NOW.

Imagine the shock, when you have built a beaut home, with a grand and matching letterbox, only to discover there is NO mail delivery to the suburb at all. It appears there won’t even be mail delivery until someone starts a petition. If you think the simple solution is to get a post office box, it’s not!

There is a waiting list for them already…

Thankfully the post office is operated by the general store, so if you are lucky and leave work early you might still make it in time to get the mail once a week or so.

Unfortunately the new resident really needs to be in touch with the world, and even in this society technology has not removed the need to receive mail from time to time.

So join the list to have the right to get the mail delivered.

THE DAYS OF THE PIDGEON CARRIER ARE OVER

IN THE BURRUM – IF YOU AGREE, THEN………..

SIGN THE PETITION BY DOWNLOADING IT FROM OUR WEB SITE HERE OR ASK THE SECRETARY FOR A COPY.

IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO DO EITHER EMAIL ME TO EMAIL YOU BACK A COPY AS AN ATTACHMENT FOR YOU TO DOWNLOAD AND PRINT.
